Play of the Day – 3/23/11

Top Play: College of Charleston’s Andrew Goudelock bombing from near half-court

I’ve never seen anything like this before.

Runner-up: Javale McGee swats Blake Griffin layup

Note to self: Don’t ever shoot a basketball within 20 feet of Javale McGee.

Play of the Day – 3/22/11

Top Play: Javale McGee with the “st-ock” on Wes Matthews

I call this the “st-ock” because he stole the ball and blocked it the same time. Get it? I thought this only happened in NBA Street.

Runner-up: C.J. Watson with the spin and reverse layup

Maybe if Kirk wasn’t wearing those stupid goggles he might’ve saw this coming…

Play of the Day – 3/21/11

Top Play: Derrick Rose reverse slam against the Kings

It was only a matter of time before Derrick would make top plays. Great play and great win by the Baby Bulls tonight.

Runner-up: Matt Cooke gets suspended for rest of regular season + first round of playoffs

NHL fans can finally sigh in relief, as resident douchebag Matt Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins is gone for the last 10 games of the regular season and the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the hit above. Now the next question is when is karma going to come back to Cooke? Click the link and smile while you watch Cooke get KO’d in one punch by a fed up 19 year old.

Play of the Day – 3/20/11

Top Play: Arizona’s Derrick Williams seals game with three-point play

This kid is playing himself into the top two picks of this year’s NBA Draft. He should probably slow down before he ends up in Cleveland.

Runner-up: Clayton Stoner destroys Ryan White

Is there a sicker name than Clayton Stoner? Well, besides Cal Clutterbuck I don’t think there is.

Play of the Day – 3/19/11

Top Play: Anthony Robles wins NCAA National Title at 125 lbs.

How about some inspiration to start your day? Arizona State’s Anthony Robles, who was born without a leg, beat defending national champion Jason Lara of Oregon to capture the 125 pound weight class title. Impressive.

Runner-up: Jon “Bones” Jones dominates Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight title

This fight was the definition of domination. Jones forced Rua to tap after a brutal beating on the ground as well as standing up. The win cements Jones as the youngest UFC champion ever at age 23. He will face Rashad Evans in his first title defense later this year. (Skip to around 2:15 to see the ending)

Play of the Day – 3/18/11

Top Play: Jameer Nelson sinks a buzzer beater to beat the Denver Nuggets

Haven’t been paying attention to NBA basketball with all of this March Madness going on? This is all you need to see.

Runner-up: Derrick Rose

More of a top play-er than play today. Rose just went off against Indiana tonight, tying a career high in points with 42, going 18-21 from the free throw line, and single handedly leading the Bulls from a 16 point deficit to force overtime. Rose his three clutch free throws with virtually no time on the clock to secure overtime. However, the Bulls fell to the Pacers 115-108. Somebody get this guy some help!

Play of the Day – 3/17/11

Top Play: Demonte Harper game-winner/Kenneth Faried block on Mike Marra

The two-for-one special, as Harper’s shot put Morehead St. over heavily favorited Louisville. Probably the biggest upset of the day.

Runner-up: Matt Howard buzzer-beating lay in.

Shades of 2010’s tourney here, as Butler remarkably beats Old Dominion with a sick lay in at the buzzer.

Play of the Day – 3/16/11

Top Play: Dwyane Wade dunk on Kendrick Perkins

I may have soiled myself if that happened to me. R.I.P. Kendrick.

Runner-up: Alexander Ovechkin laser beam

Ovie used to score goals like these on a nightly basis. Maybe he’s back in form?

Play of the Day – 3/15/11

Top Play: Danny Granger buzzer beater to beat New York Knicks

There can never be too many buzzer beaters, right?

Runner-up: Evander Kane sick pass to Tim Stapleton

This pass is ridiculously hard to make. Kane basically has his head down and makes a perfect, back-handed cross-ice pass for the one-timer. Just dirty.

(Note: Please just proceed to ESPN’s youtube since they won’t let me embed. It’s the very first highlight.)

Play of the Day – 3/14/11

Here are yesterday’s top plays:

Top Play: Viktor Stalberg bats puck out of mid-air for goal

This guy probably hits better than 3/4 of the Cubs. When is Jim Hendry going to give him a 1 year/$10 million deal?

Runner-up: Paul Pierce nice move and dunk vs. the Nets

Sorry Kim Kardashian, but your man got postered right there.
